Making your own gift cards can be a fun, and rewarding activity. Family and friends that receive homemade cards will be touched by any effort you might put into creating a unique card. Although many people turn to desktop programs to make their creations, others prefer the traditional method. If you want to make an old-school card, you will need some old-school supplies.
A good set of colored pencils is a must. There is no need to make a big investment here. A basic set of pencils can be purchased at any craft store, toy store, or large department store. Invest in a good manual pencil sharpener, a few quality erasers, and a selection of regular pencils.
Purchase a paper stock that the pencils will work well with. A matte stock, or anything without a high gloss finish will do nicely. A craft store will generally have a good supply of designer paper. Let your imagination go, and be creative making your selection. If you have light colored file folders available, these do nicely as card blanks, after they have been cut to size.
Practice your design on inexpensive copy paper first. Relax and have fun. The rest is easy.
